PPCM FUND INC. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded by PPCM survivors dedicated to saving unsuspecting mothers and their families from the avoidable suffering associated with PPCM (Peripartum Cardiomyopathy).
PPCM is a preventable* pregnancy-induced heart failure generally caused by an internal buildup of fluid.
The BNP and NT-Pro BNP are specialized/screening blood tests that have the ability to catch pregnancy-related & induced heart failure (PPCM - Peripartum-Cardiomyopathy) early enough to help dramatically decrease maternal mortality in new mothers. This goes for animals as well; request an NT-proBNP test from your pet's Vet at their next visit.

Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) — A Natriuretic Peptide Test measures the concentration of BNP or NT-proBNP in a blood sample to help evaluate heart function. Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP)—officially called B-type natriuretic peptide—is a 32-amino acid peptide hormone and protective biomarker produced primarily by the ventricles of the heart. Despite having "brain" in its name because it was first isolated from brain tissue, it acts as a crucial cardiovascular signaling molecule.
What BNP Does
When your heart muscle stretches from increased pressure or fluid volume overload, the ventricles release BNP and an inactive fragment called NT-proBNP into the bloodstream.
